Protecting & Restoring Long Island's Peconic Bays

Native Plant Gardening For Better Water Quality

By The Peconic Estuary Partnership

Watch our May 2020 Citizens’ Advisory Committee Meeting co-hosted with Group for the East End, with guest speaker Rusty Schmidt, President of Long Island Native Plant Initiative (LINPI). Learn all about native plant species, where you can buy native plants, and how to get started on your garden. Native plants do not require fertilizer or pesticides to thrive and require less water to grow – making them a perfect choice to reduce our nutrient and chemical inputs to our environment and our bays. Click here for helpful native plant resources provided by LINPI.

If you live in the Peconic Estuary Watershed, you have the opportunity to apply for the PEP Homeowner Rewards Program to get reimbursed for installing rain barrels, rain gardens or native plant gardens on your property. Learn more here about the PEP HRP.  Happy planting!
