Various Sites Throughout the Peconic Estuary Region
Agricultural Stewardship Program
Agriculture is prevalent within the Peconic Estuary watershed, and is of historic and economic importance to our region. The PEP Agricultural Stewardship Program, carried out by Cornell Cooperative Extension, consists of efforts to mitigate potential contamination to our ground and surface water resources, while helping to sustain the agricultural industry.
This project focuses on agricultural lands surrounding impaired waterbodies as indentified in the Peconic Estuary Programs\\\' 2007 \\\"Total Maximum Load for Nitrogen in the Peconic Estuary Study Area\\\". The purpose of these efforts involve reducing agrichemical losses with the ultimate goal being to reduce non-point source nitrogen loading by fifty percent (50%).
